In September 2010 near Katowice in Poland, GWR (Guinness World Records) recorded the largest run of Volvo cars ever assembled at 570 cars. We look at how a bunch of UK Volvo owners seek to bring the record back to Blighty.
Fast forward to 31 March 2019. A UK Team assembled 1,574 Volvo cars at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicester. Watched by over 5,000 people the World Record was duly smashed and brought home to the UK. However, when GWR checked the footage, they spotted an infringement. Who knew they had VAR! Sadly, the record could not be awarded as one of the primary rules associated with the challenge is, 'no more than two car lengths between vehicles’ which was not apparently observed. Rules, eh! Team UK picked themselves up and set up to do it all again in 2020. Then the small matter of COVID arose.
Not to be put off by minor pettifogging rules or indeed a global pandemic, the UK Team are now attempting a second run. This time it will be held at RAF Elvington near York on 21 June 2021.
We know they’ll bring the bacon home! Good luck to everyone.
