The Museum of RAF Fire Fighting needs your help…
The Museum of RAF Fire Fighting needs your help. The Museum is dedicated to telling the story of military firefighting with a particular emphasis on the Royal Air Force. The collection also includes exhibits from the Royal Navy and the Army, the Defence Fire services and MOD contract fire Services.
It is thought to be the largest collection of fire memorabilia in the country and most probably the largest display collection of ex-military fire engines in the world.
Plans to set up a new Museum on the outskirts of Alford have been scuppered and once again, the museum battles to find a new home.
Founder, Steve Shirley MBE, said, “To house the collection, we really need a warehouse/hangar type building with a minimum floor space of approx. 50,000 square feet. In the past we were lucky enough to find someone who had an empty building that they were prepared to let to us for a peppercorn rent. They retained ownership but made significant savings through rate relief. This is the sort of deal that we need to find now.”
Collections of this sort are a critical element of our cultural history. We hope some good news breaks for them soon. https://firemuseum.uk/
